2009 Euro-Asia Economic Forum opens in X

The 2009 Euro-Asia Economic Forum will be held Monday in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, and a press conference was held in Xi'an Sunday to promote the event.

Zhang Deguang, secretary-general of the Euro-Asia Economic Forum said the preparation work was finished and more than 930 delegates worldwide will attend the forum.

Zhang said there were four new features added to the forum.

The first is timeliness. This forum is being held in the key recovery period from the financial crisis and it can help strengthen cooperation among the countries in Europe and Asia and exert a positive impact on regional economic recovery.

Second, the topics are more practical. Besides the general meeting, four session meetings on topics, including energy, finance, education and cooperation of customs will also be held. The topics covered issues of concern to countries in Asia and Europe.

Thirdly, the content of the forum is richer. There will be sessions like Talkfeast on investment, cooperation between Shaanxi, Kazakhstan, development of equipment in heavy industry, and promoting investment in Xi’an are added for the first time.

Finally, the session meetings are hosted by relevant organizations that were previously held by the forum secretariat.

The biennial Euro-Asia Economic Forum was first launched in China in 2005 with the first two held in Xi'an in 2005 and 2007. Xi'an was named the permanent venue of the forum in April 2007.
